Senate Standing Committee on Railways, on Monday, was told that the inquiry report on Hyderabad Train Collision would be shared with the Committee in 45 days.
After getting preliminary information about the incident, the Committee asked some questions and summoned their answers in the inquiry report. Senator Asad Ali Khan Junejo presided over the meeting held here at the Parliament House.
Those present in the meeting included Senators Brig (R) John Kenneth Williams; Gianchand; Mirza Muhammad Afridi; Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and officials from Pakistan Railways.
The committee was told that on that fateful day, Jinnah Express was being driven at a high speed despite the speed limit. The driver did not stop the train despite being given an outer signal.
The committee members observed that information about the defective signal, speed limit, brake application, number of people permitted to sit in locomotive, casualties, and time observation should be made a part of the inquiry.
The committee also deliberated upon the sub-committee report on projects of Pakistan Railways under CPEC; recent derailments and their enquiry reports; unavailability of water, light bulbs and window glass and insufficient bogies in trains operating between Quetta and Chaman. It appreciated the improvement done on the route between Quetta and Chaman and directed the remaining work to be completed soon.
Railways Minister informed the panel that prioritising work on ML-I under CPEC would resolve most issues of Pakistan Railways.
