ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday prohibited the admissions of private medical colleges until the formation of a uniform policy for all of them.
At apex court’s Lahore registry, the Chief justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar presided over the hearing of the suo motu case on extortionate fees charged by private medical colleges.
CJP remarked, “There should be a central system for admission in college.” Moreover, he added, “The current system is flawed and SC aims to make it better.”
Justice Nisar ordered that private colleges must seek reasonable profit on admission-fee and the fee amount should not exceed from eight lac fifty thousand.
Mian Saqib stated that the case is not against the medical colleges but it aims to seek public interest.
DG FIA told the court that it has recovered 750 million rupees from medical colleges and have returned it to the students.
CJP ordered all medical colleges to refrain from advertising until further notice. The court was then adjourned till July 30.
