ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) granted permission to former premier Yousaf Raza Gillani to run for public office. An appeal was registered against the acceptance of his nomination papers, that was rejected by the court.
The appeal was registered by his opponent, Nisar Ahmed, which stated that Gillani’s wife, his mother and his mother-in-law are directors of two companies. On inquiry by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, the applicant said that Fauzia Gillani owns 12 percent shares, in response to which the judge replied, ” Can someone be disqualified over 12 percent shares.
After listening to the arguments from both sides, SC rejected the application.
