LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General (IG) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam o Thursday claimed to have registered 136 cases pertaining to violation of Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) code of conduct.
According to the provincial IG investigations against 946 political party workers was carried out.
Out of the 946, 429 workers hail from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), 134 from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and 22 from Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).
Imam added that in addition to the 946 workers, 361 supporters of independent candidates and other political parties were charged for violation of ECP’s code of conduct.
Punjab IG said that a total of 65 political workers have been detained under the Goonda Act.
Earlier on Wednesday night, two PTI workers were booked for using fireworks during Aleem Khan’s corner meeting in NA-129 Lahore constituency.
According to the IG Punjab, two guards of PTI candidate for PP-163 Bilal Aslam were arrested for displaying arms.
He added that under Section 144 imposition in the city, display of arms and fireworks are banned under ECP’s code of conduct.
Returning officer of ECP’s appellate tribunal has also summoned a PML-N candidate from Muzaffargarh Haroon Sultan for embedding the narrative that it is ‘haram’ for women to cast votes.
