PESHAWAR: Anti-Terrorism court (ATC) of Bunar District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Baldev Kumar in PTI MPA Sardar Soran Singh’s murder case.
PTI MPA Singh was murdered in Bunar on April 22, 2016. KP police had arrested six suspects including Baldev Kumar for Singh’s murder. Police claimed that Kumar had a rivalry with Singh over the election as special adviser to KP Chief Minister (CM) on minority affairs.
According to police, Kumar had the motive to assassinate Singh, as he was unable to secure a party ticket that Singh had already won.
Kumar had been under trial at ATC. Peshawar High Court (PHC) had granted Baldev to take oath before the Senate elections 2018, which failed due to resistance from PTI leaders.
On April 5 during the case hearing, PHC had directed speaker of the assembly to take oath from Kumar after his counsel had alleged that the speaker was on purpose delaying the oath taking of his client.
