ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) on Friday resumed the hearing of the contempt case against Tallal Chaudhry, Minister of State for Interior Affairs.
Kamran Murtaza, Tallal’s counsel, cross-examined the statement of witness Haji Adam and inquired whether Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had taken any action on his client’s material before March.
The witness replied that the material was aired on all the channels after being verified from two television channels.
SC had indicted Tallal Chaudhry on March 15. The court had also handed over the charge sheet to him ordering him to sign it.
Chief Justice (CJ) Mian Saqib Nisar took a suo motu notice of Tallal Chaudhry’s ‘contemptuous speeches’ against judiciary on February 2.
The notice was taken after Tallal disparaged Panama case verdict on various occasions.
While comparing the judges with idols during a Jaranwala rally in January, Tallal had also urged PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif to overthrow them from the courts.
In a video posted on the social media, he could be seen saying that with these judges sitting in the courts, there was no hope for justice.
