ISLAMABAD: Accountability court headed by Justice Mohammed Bashir on Thursday charged co-accused and facilitators in Senator Ishaq Dar’s misappropriation of assets case.
National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) President Saeed Ahmad, and Hajveri Modaraba Directors Naeem Mehmood and Mansoor Raza Rizvi were charged during the hearing. The co-accused pled innocence.
Judge Bashir indicted the co-accused stating that no order had been received from the Supreme Court (SC) for proceeding with the case. He said that if any direction came from SC, the proceedings of Thursday will be nullified.
The court adjourned its proceedings till April 11 summoning the prosecution witness.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was indicted by the NAB after the Panama Papers case last year, on grounds of disproportionate assets declaration compared to his sources of income. Dar has been accused of misappropriation of assets amounting to Rs 831.678 million.
Earlier, NAB had identified three co-accused in the case to be indicted, but the case proceedings were delayed due to Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict. Justice Bashir in the last proceedings had directed the prosecutor to present a copy of the verdict so that the court could resume the hearing.
Dar has been residing in London due to heart ailment and ongoing treatment, after he had been allowed leave for three-month duration by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbassi.
