LAHORE: The National Security Advisors of both India and Pakistan met for talks in Bangkok on 26 December, one day after the mother and wife of Kulbhushan Jadhav met him in Pakistan, according to a report on The Indian Express.
The venue and date of the meeting between Lt General (retd) Nasir Khan Janjua and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval were, however, not linked to issues relating Jadhav’s meeting with his wife and mother.
Pakistani officials have not yet commented on the meeting.
It had been decided between the two sides earlier this month, and it was a “pre-scheduled meeting,” the Indian daily quoted sourcing as telling it, adding that official Indian sources refused to comment on the subject.
Two days later, Janjua held a five-hour-long meeting with former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at the latter’s Jati Umra residence in Raiwind.
Matters of national security and relations with neighbouring countries including India were reportedly discussed in Thursday’s meeting.
The last time the two NSAs met, in December 2015 in Bangkok, the incident was followed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise stop-over in Lahore to attend then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s granddaughter’s wedding.
