LAHORE: A high-level meeting was held with the CM in the chair to review steps taken by the government regarding crushing season and solutions of problems faced by sugarcane farmers.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said that interest of the farmers was of foremost importance to him. “No one will be allowed to play with the interests of farmers. No excess will be allowed to be made with the farmers,” he added.
He warned the three mills that had yet to start crushing to do so by Wednesday (today) or faces consequences.
The Chief Minister directed the IGP to take action against these mills if they failed to start crushing in time. He directed authorities concerned to ensure procurement of sugarcane from farmers as per its actual weight. He said that strict action will be initiated on complaints in that regard.
Shehbaz Sharif said that he will personally supervise the crushing season as well as every step taken in this regard. Earlier, he was told that crushing had been started in 37 of 40 mills in the province.
Provincial ministers Sheikh Allauddin, Bilal Yasin, Naeem Akhtar Bhaba, Punjab government spokesman Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and officials concerned were present at the meeting.
