LAHORE: In order to conduct elections on time, the Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Monday approved delimitation of new constituencies based on provisional results of Population Census 2017.
The 33rd meeting of the CCI was held on Monday, chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. While chief ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were also present in meeting who effectively resolved the major contentions to hold elections on time.
While approving the provisional census results for delimitation process, the CCI affirmed that Sindh government has every right to get the census record verified for any possible errors.
PM’s special aide Musaddiq Malik while taking to media stated that the suspicions on the Karachi’s population were also discussed in meeting. “The election commission will immediately start working on delimitation of new constituencies once the constitutional amendment is passed.” He added.
