LAHORE: Sindh Rangers on Sunday termed the September 2 attack on Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Khawja Izharul Hassan as a “conspiracy to discredit police and law enforcement agencies”.
Mutahhida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khawaja Izhar had survived in an assassination attempt which took place in Buffer Zone area of Karachi on the first day of Eidul Izha.
While addressing a press conference, Rangers official, Col Faisal Arif said, “The attackers had tried to show that the police or the government was involved in the attack on the MQM-P leader”.
He also shared footage of the attack in which two attackers could be seen, one of them was wearing a police uniform and other was wearing a T-shirt.
He said that various intelligence based operation were conducted to arrest the culprits.
“It was discovered that three of the attackers were belonged to Ansarul Shariah Pakistan (ASP),” he claimed.
“ASP is a small group of about 12-15 members. Six to eight of whom are the members of its target-killing team and others are supposed to provide backup support,” Col Arif further explained.
However, he confirmed the death of ASP Chief Shahryaruddin Warsi in an operation carried out by the Sindh Rangers along with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday night in Raees Goth area of Karachi.
