Islamabad – The National Assembly unanimously passed amendments to the Election Act 2017 on Thursday.
The amendments also restored Khatm-i-Naboowat (finality of prophethood) declaration, which is required to be signed by all public office holders.
A recent controversy had arisen when the PML-N passed the amendments, which the opposition claimed also changed the contents of the bill particularly the clause where belief in Khatm-i-Naboowat (finality of Prophethood) was altered to its original context.
The amendments passed today were agreed upon by all parliamentary party members after NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq accepted that the government had made a ‘clerical error’ and invited all the stallholders to discuss the matter in his chambers.
During the meeting, the parliamentary leaders agreed to restore the declaration to the original form it was in before the National Assembly passed the Elections Bill 2017 on Tuesday.
Addressing the house Law Minister Zahid Hamid said, ‘That a historical bill was passed recently, which is a result of three years of hard work,”
