LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore on Wednesday directed the State Bank of Pakistan and all other banks to freeze Finance Minister Ishaq Dar’s accounts.
According to NAB Spokesman Nawazish Ali, the graft watchdog also instructed the banks to inform it immediately after taking the prescribed action.
Ishaq Dar on Wednesday failed to appear before an accountability court hearing a reference filed against him for possessing assets beyond his known sources of income. Dar’s Protocol Officer Fazal Dad informed the accountability court that the minister was in London due to his personal engagements. To a court query, he said he was unaware of the date of return of the minister.
Accepting NAB’s plea, the court issued bailable arrest warrants against Dar and directed the authorities concerned to arrest and produce him on September 25. The court also directed to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 million and nominate someone to serve as bail bondsperson. The court warned that non-bailable arrest warrants against the accused will be issued if he failed to appear even on September 25.
Later in the day, a NAB team raided Ishaq Dar’s residence in Islamabad but failed to arrest him since he was not present at the house.
