LAHORE: The intra-party elections of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) were held here on Sunday, Qazi Muhammad Zahid from Sindh was elected as Central President (CP) and Khurram Nawaz Gandapur was elected and Secretary General (SG).
Basharat Jaspal, Fayyaz Warraich and Muhammad Mushtaq were elected Presidents of Central Punjab, South Punjab and North Punjab respectively. PAT patron Tahir Ul Qadri addressed the party Federal Council (FC) in a meeting following the elections and congratulated the newly elected party officials. The FC approved various amendments to the PAT constitution. Resolutions were passed which demanded the declassification of the Justice Najifi report and the ongoing violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar was condemned.
Party members at the meeting also condemned the practice of taking foreign loans and the inflation it resulted in. While addressing the meeting, Qadri stated that the PAT does not believe in the status quo and that the party’s goal was a “revolution” which would ensure education, healthcare, employment, security and justice to each citizen of Pakistan. He stated that the PAT had struggled against oppression and faced incidents like the 2014 clash with the police at Model Town. Qadri commended PAT party workers, saying they had always made sacrifices for Pakistan and Islam.
