ISLAMABAD: The nation will celebrate Eidul Azha today (Saturday) with religious fervour to commemorate the “supreme sacrifice” of Prophet Hazrat Ibrahim (AS). The day will dawn with special prayers for the well-being of the Ummah and safety and security of the country.
Big congregations would be held at mosques, eidgahs and open places in all cities, towns, and villages across the country where ulemas and clerics would highlight the significance of the festival and philosophy of sacrifice.
In the federal capital, the main congregation will be held at Faisal Mosque where federal ministers, politicians, Muslim diplomats and notables would join thousands of faithful in prayers. After offering Eid prayers, faithful will slaughter sacrificial animals. Later, the meat of sacrificed animals will be distributed among the poor to share celebrations.
For the purpose, federal and provincial governments have chalked out elaborate security arrangements across the country to ward off untoward incidents.
Civic authorities of different cities and towns have also made special arrangements for disposal of offal and other animal waste during the three days of Eidul Azha. Meanwhile, Eidul Azha was celebrated on Friday in the Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Big gatherings were held at Masjid Al-Haram and Masjid-e-Nabwi (PBUH) where millions of Muslims from around the world offered prayers. Similar scenes were also witnessed in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
