KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has decided to hold another sit-in against the Karachi Electric (KE) as the 15-day deadline given by it for acceptance of demands has already expired.
JI Karachi chief Engr Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman while addressing a press conference in Karachi’s Idara Noor-e-Haq on Thursday, said their party would not hold a sit-in on May 25 at Sharah-e-Faisal.
He said earlier the JI had called off a sit-in outside the Governor House against KE, after Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair had assured the party that he will ensure provision of substantial relief to masses in connection with the KE’s policies, however, no relief was provided to the Karachiites yet.
Engr Naeem announced that a sit-in will be held against the private power distribution company on May 24 at Nursery, Shahrah-e-Faisal.
He said that the JI decided to continue its campaign against the company as instead of providing relief to consumers it has further increased load shedding in the city.
Naeem also said that the JI would approach National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against the misdeeds, being committed by the KE administration, Adding that compelling masses to face load shedding while keeping power generation plants shut is the worst form of corruption and minting huge amounts of money.
The JI leader said that the frequent load shedding, feeder trip and power failures due to faults are evident of the incapability of the KE management. He said that the power company compelled masses to face prolonged power outages amid hard temperature and at a time when hundreds of thousands of students in the city were appearing in their exams.
He recalled that a couple of years back some 5000 citizens had died due to power outages during heat-wave in Karachi. He added that the JI had not only held a sit-in outside KE headquarters but also approached the federal government through NEPRA and knocked the doors of judiciary. He said that a case filed by JI against KE has been pending before the country’s top court.
Talking about the future line of action of the JI, he said that complaint camps would be set-up outside various IBCs so as to provide affected people with some relief. He further said that camps would also be setup across the city on May 22nd and 23rd.
Meanwhile one million petition campaign would also be completed, he vowed.
The JI leader further said that the administration and the government will be responsible, if the scheduled sit-in is interrupted or sabotaged.
