KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court on Tuesday tasked Rangers to nab Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Dr Farooq Sattar and second-in-command Amir Khan in a case pertaining to treason, attacking private news channels and riots on August 22, 2016.
In a letter written to Director General Rangers Major General Muhammad Saeed, the ATC-II judge directed the paramilitary force to arrest Sattar and senior deputy convener Amir Khan and present them in court by the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the court also issued non-bailable warrants of arrest for them.
The ATC declared the matter most urgent and asked the Rangers top official to keep it on top priority, It also directed him to ensure compliance with its order, without any fail.
This is the first time that a court has tasked paramilitary force with the arrest of suspects in a case.
Earlier, the court had directed police, several times to arrest and produce the absconding suspects before it, but the investigators were unable to do so, saying that Sattar and Amir were untraceable.
Duos, among MQM founder Altaf Hussain, have been booked for allegedly facilitating and delivering anti-state speech respectively.
Altaf had delivered the speech against the state that was allegedly facilitated and listened by the leaders and workers in August last year outside Karachi Press Club.
The MQM London based founder had criticised the national security agencies and on his provocation, the workers raised anti-Pakistan slogans August 22 last year outside Karachi Press Club where the party had staged a hunger strike for recovery of its missing activists.
According to police, the suspects had also attacked private news channels and rioted near Fawara Chowk after their chief addressed them and incited for the violence. At least one person was died and others injured in the riots within the limits of Artillery Maidan police station.
