LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed officials concerned for removal of heaps of garbage during the execution of Orange train project.
The CM also issued orders to reconstruct Multan Road and other arteries for a smooth traffic flow.
Orange Train Steering Committee Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan said this during his weekly progress review meeting.
The chairman directed for quick mobilization of machinery and workforce for resuming work on Package-II. All possible resources should be used for accomplishing the task as per international standards and the departments concerned must join hands with closer coordination for this purpose, he said.
Hassaan urged officials concerned to set up a special squad of LESCO for timely arranging shut downs of electricity for speedy launching of U-tub girders for constructing elevated track for metro train along package-I as more than 250 such structures had so far been precast. He urged the contractor as well as the project director to inform LESCO in this regard at least one week before the launching of such structures in a particular locality.
Hassan asked the officials concerned for giving a serious thought to the proposal for installation of baggage scanning machines at the stations to ensure safe journey.
The meeting was informed that so far about 57 percent work on the project has been completed while progress on package-1 from Dera Gujjaran to Chauburji was 72 percent. More than half of the construction work on bridge on Lahore Ring Road near Dera Gujjaran has been completed while work on underground portion of the track was also progressing with special waterproofing arrangements and provision of other allied facilities at Anarkali station of the track.
Mayor-elect Col (r) Mubashar, TEPA Chief Engineer Saifur Rehman, senior officials of LESCO, NESPAK, PTCL, SUI GAS and Railway, Chinese contractor, CR-NOROINCO, representatives of Chinese Engineering Consultant and contractors of the project attended the meeting.
