ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) apprehended 81 electricity thieves on Thursday – in several raids during its on-going drive against power pilferers.
The IESCO spokesman said that 45 culprits were caught red-handed from Rawalpindi, 20 from Islamabad, five from Attock, four Jehlumand seven from Chakwal circles.
The drive – launched on the directives of IESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan – detained all the culprits found involved in power theft through direct line (Kunda system).
He said First Information Reports (FIR) have been lodged against the detained – under the new electricity (Amendment) Act – and that IESCO was committed to taking stern action against such power thieve.
The spokesperson also requested the general public to report about power thefts on IESCO’s new helpline – by sending SMS to Roshni 8398. He said that the new ‘ROSHNI SMS Service 8398’ and 118 helpline was serving commendably in entire IESCO region as the service was receiving massive response from the users.
He further said that the service can be used to register complains regarding tariff, temporary connection, late receiving of electricity bills, over billing and low voltage issues.
