Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar recorded his statement before an inquiry commission investigating the recent sugar crisis in the country, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday.
The commission is headed by FIA Director General Wajid Zia.
Reports said Buzdar responded to commission’s queries about provision of subsidy on the export of sugar.
A day earlier, Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar had recorded his statement before the commission. Talking to media on the occasion, Asad Umar had said that soon it would be revealed as to how Prime Minister Imran Khan was different from other political leaders.
Meanwhile, the commission has again summoned Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on May 14 (today) to record his statement. The commission will question Shah on subsidies on export of sugar.
However, sources familiar with the matter said that the Sindh chief minister will not appear before the commission, adding that the provincial advocate general has informed DG FIA that the commission, as per its ToRs, cannot summon Sindh chief minister.
According to reports, the commission has made some progress in the ongoing probe after conducting interviews of the chief executive officers (CEOs) of different sugar mills on Sunday. The commission had summoned eight groups for interviews from sugar mills, including Alliance Group, Hunza Group and Hamza Group.
It is pertinent to mention here that the federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan on April 28 had given three more weeks to the commission to compile its detailed forensic report on the scandal.
