The book “My Speeches on Sufi Thought and Society” written by renowned Sindhi author Khadim Hussain Soomro was reviewed at Pakistan Academy of Letters here on Wednesday.
The discussion on the book was jointly arranged by Pakistan Intellectual Forum (PIF) and Sindh Sufi Institute (SSI). During the discussion, speakers including Dr Aman Menon, Dr Ravish Nadeem, Dr Manzoor Vesrio, Tahira Abdullah and the author of the book Dr Soomro expressed their views on the book.
Dr Vesrio said that Soomro himself seems practical Sufi. Mostly, the author has written his books in English medium. Due to that actually, he introduced Sufism and Sindh across the world through his books.
Dr Memon said that Soomro had taken up the mission of Sufism, which is love and acceptance. He said that Sindh was forefront in the struggle for pluralism.
Nadeem praised Soomro’s role to highlight issues through his book, which actually not touching by majority of authors.
Human rights activist Tahira Abdullah said that our identity has roots in South Asia.
In the end, author of the book Dr Soomro said that South Asian region and especially Pakistan had been the center of Sufism. “We can eliminate extremism by promoting Sufism in the country. Violence was not a part of our society. We are the custodian of Indus Valley where people used to live peacefully.”
