United Nation Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances has been working since long under the United Nations Human Rights Council. This Working Group holds its meetings periodically to review the cases of enforced disappearances in various member countries of the United Nations. The Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance submits its report through Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the cases registered in the Working Group against Pakistan. Last meeting of the United Nation Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances was held in Geneva from 10-14 February 2020 and its report received in the Commission, through Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that during its meeting, the Working Group clarified 184 cases out of the list of the cases against Pakistan on the basis of the information furnished to the Working Group by the Commission, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Justice Javed lqbal, Chairman of the Commission always attaches great importance to the image of Pakistan in the world and keeping this in view, special attention is paid to the cases received in the Commission from United Nations. It is worth mentioning that the Commission has been successful in tracing the whereabouts of a number of Missing Persons whose cases were received from United Nation Working Group of Enforced or Involuntary Group in which even the addresses provided in the Information Report of the Working Group was incomplete and insufficient and without any details of contact persons of the family of disappeared persons. Various authorities throughout Pakistan including Provincial Police set up has always extended valuable cooperation to the Commission in tracing the whereabouts of such Missing Persons. United Nation Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances has always appreciated the response of the Government of Pakistan which is submitted to the Group by this Commission through Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan Mission in Geneva.
