Another meeting of the Parliamentary Committee chaired by Human Rights Minister Dr. Shireen Mazari will meet today (Dec 4) to discuss appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan.
Today the meeting will consider nominations for appointment of Members of the ECP from Sindh and Balochistan forwarded by the government and the opposition.
On yesterday, as meeting started, the government and the opposition have reached to consensus over the appointment of election commission members, however, the opposition has sough time for consultation and final names will be decided before today’s National Assembly meeting.
Government and the Opposition have forwarded their nominations for appointment of Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan to the Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser and the Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjarani. Both the custodians have forwarded these nominations to the Parliamentary Committee for consideration.
Earlier, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Shehbaz Sharif has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan recommending three names for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president, in a letter to the premier, recommended the names of Nasir Mahmood Khosa, Jalil Abbas Jillani and Akhlaaq Ahmed Tarar for the post of CEC.
