Fresh milk retailers of the megacity on satuday increased the rate of milk by Rs10 per liter. Citizens showed anger over the rise in the price of fresh milk and the inability of government to control rates of daily use kitchen commodities. However, later, Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani while taking notice of media reports about the sale of milk on high price in the metropolis directed all the deputy and assistant commissioners to take stern action against all those charging more than the notified price. The commissioner in this regard also directed all the deputy commissioners to send him report on a daily basis. He asked them to remain in the field to ensure the sale of milk on notified price. The commissioner said that imprisonment and heavy fines would be imposed on all those milk sellers who were violating the government’s orders.
