The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested former directorate general of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Insaf Ahmad on Monday in the alleged mega-corruption case of Rs300 billion payment to Pakistan’s Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Insaf Ahmaed allegedly made a loss of Rs8 billion to the national exchequer by transferring extra money to IPPs over the year. Nishat Chunian Power Limited (NCPL) power plant was installed in 2010 having 200 megawatts. According to NAB, billions of rupees were illegally transferred to the specific company over the years which had a direct impact on the domestic economic conditions and the electricity prices of the country. According to NAB, former DG NEPRA will be presented before the accountability court to seek his physical remand. Important disclosures and further arrests are expected to be made of the co-accused in the reference while investigating Syed Insaf Ahmed, NAB added.
