A severe heat wave continued to grip the country on Sunday, with little to no chances of the weather changing over Eidul Fitr holidays.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan from June 5 till June 8, while very hot weather is likely in southern parts of the country.
Temperatures in various parts of Punjab, including Multan, Lahore and Faisalabad, could remain between 45 and 47 degree Celsius.
The PMD predicts that temperatures in parts of Sindh such as Sukkur will rise up to 49 degree Celsius, while Karachi will experience around a sweltering 37 to 38 degree Celsius.
Karachi’s Chief Meteorologist Abdul Rashid confirmed that the dry and hot spell would most likely persist until after Eidul Fitr. He said the hot and dry weather would continue on the first two days of Eid, but may let up by the third day.
The PMD has also warned that the weather may take a turn for the worse and become hotter over the next few days.
Meanwhile, rain has been predicted for the country’s northern areas, such as Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Gilgit-Baltistan and some places in Kashmir.
Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry had announced that Eidul Fitr would be observed across Pakistan on June 5. A last-minute change cannot be ruled out, though, as his announcement of moon-sighting on scientific grounds was opposed by religious leaders. Meanwhile, the federal government has announced a four-day public holiday on Eidul Fitr. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the holidays will start from June 4 (Tuesday) and run till June 7 (Friday).
