A US delegation, headed by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Ambassador, Alice Wells, is due in Islamabad on Tuesday. The visit would a part of an important session of economic and business talks between Pakistan and the US. According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan has made regional security affairs a key part of the agenda for the deliberations. The representatives are also expected to review various options to promote bilateral relations and mutual cooperation. Last November, Ambassador Wells relayed Washington’s willingness to continue efforts to promote shared objectives of peace and regional stability as well as diversify bilateral relationship during her visit to Pakistan. During her day-long visit, she had called on the then finance minister, Asad Umar, and also held delegation-level talks at Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A statement by the foreign office had then maintained that the meeting took further the understanding reached between Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to rebuild the relationship based on mutual trust and respect. The Pakistani delegation was said to have emphasised on diversifying the bilateral relationship with a particular focus on an enhanced economic and trade cooperation and people-to-people contacts.
