Expressing dissatisfaction over the report of the Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC), Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday directed the authorities to sealed Darul Sehat Hospital over negligence, violation of rules and administration of ‘wrong injection’ to nine-month-old Nashwa.
Talking to journalists, Murad Ali Shah said, “I have directed Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho to seal Darul Sehat Hospital.”
The chief minister said that most of the staff at the hospital were untrained, and added that no hospital could be run by just two people.
It is pertinent to mention here that Nashwa was brought to Darul Sehat Hospital earlier this month, where an overdose of potassium chloride had severely affected her brain, leaving her nearly brain-dead.
She was subsequently moved to Karachi’s Liaquat National Hospital, where she died on April 22 after remaining under treatment for nearly a week.
Earlier, the SHCC had recommended a monetary penalty on Darul Sehat Hospital and ordered the medical facility to sack the ‘untrained’ staff in wake of maltreatment and resultant death of toddler Nashwa.
The recommendations were made in the report that the SHCC had drafted on the orders of Murad Ali Shah. According to the report, the commission had recommended a fine of Rs 500,000 on the hospital for its staff’s ‘negligence’.
