KARACHI: Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid on Saturday said that the Samjhota Express train service between Pakistan and India will resume its operations on Monday, March 04.
Addressing the new conference Sheikh Rashid said that Smjhota Express train service will resume on Monday and will continue as per schedule.
The Samjhota Express will depart for Pakistan from New Delhi on Sunday, Indian railways officials said.
Earlier, the train service was suspended between India and Pakistan due to increasing tensions between the two neighbouring countries.
The announcement to resume the train services comes a day after Pakistan released captured Indian Air Force pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, and handed him over to India as a peace gesture.
The Samjhota Express train service was suspended on February 28.
Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Thursday said the Samjhota Express service would be resumed from Monday, March 04.
The railways minister also appreciated his department’s performance over the past week. “When [Pakistan’s] airspace was shut down, the railways department took on 25 percent more load to make up for the deficits.”
The Samjhota Express runs twice a week (Monday and Thursday) from Lahore to Attari via the Wagah railway station.
