PESHAWAR: After braving rains, several districts in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are expected to be hit by a heatwave.
The meteorological department issued alerts on Friday, with the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) pointing out Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Lucky Marwat and Dera Ismail Khan and adjoining districts were specifically at risk. The PDMA instructed management to set up awareness camps to teach people preventive measures against heat strokes.
The big heat
In addition to this, the divisional control rooms and central control room have also been mobilised to provide relief in case of emergencies in Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. It is important to note that the heatwave has prevailed in several parts of the country especially in Karachi and interior Sindh. Over 60 people were reported to have been killed in the recent heatwave in Karachi alone.
