ISLAMABAD: The government presented the National Accountability (Amendment) Ordinance 2017 to the Senate on Tuesday.
Law and Justice Minister Zahid Hamid presented the ordinance before the upper House as required by clause 2 of article 89 of the constitution.
Senate Opposition leader Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan objected to the promulgation of the Ordinance as he stated that it could have been brought to any of the houses in the form of a bill.
He pointed out that the imposition of a life time ban on anybody in regards to the plea bargain would be against the constitution and the punishment should be reasonable.
The law minister responded, pointing out that when the matter of the plea bargain was discussed in the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice, senior members like Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Farooq H Naek had objected that the plea bargain was against the spirit of accountability.
Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani referred the bill to the concerned standing committee.
