ISLAMABAD: After 56 days of continuous work, the Supreme Court (SC) released the Quetta Inquiry Commission Report, highlighting evident lapses in the government’s anti-terror policy that lead to the tragedy.
The 109-page report – authored by Justice Qazi Faez Isa – said that there was a breakdown in the implementation of law and order in Balochistan and the Interior Ministry was without clear leadership and direction.
The apex court, exercising powers under Article 184 (3), formed a commission on 6th October for the investigation of the suicide attack at Quetta’s Civil Hospital on 8th August, which claimed 70 lives and injured almost 112 people, including many senior lawyers.
According to the report, the federal interior minister, the chief minister Balochistan and the home minster gave ‘false statements’. It said, “The National Action Plan was not a plan in any ‘structured or meaningful’ way, the plan failed, the complete lack of a counter extremism narrative is appalling, woeful, and tragic.”
Media coverage seems to converge around the terrorists’ propaganda, which was resulted in the breach of section 11W of the ATA. The commission also shared 18 recommendations for the implementation.
