Umme Rubab Chandio, who is pursuing the case of her slain family members, was stopped by heavy contingents of police suddenly deployed by SSP Larkana before her arrival on Sunday to make a complaint to the grave of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
Her father Mukhtiar Chandio, grandfather Karamullah Chandio and paternal uncle Kabil Chandio were gunned down on January 17, 2018, within the jurisdiction of Faridabad police station in Mehar taluka of Dadu district and since then she is running from pillar to post to get justice.
Gates of the Bhutto mausoleum were closed before her arrival but she tried to enter the Mazar but was prevented by police.
While addressing the protesters, Ms Chandio said that it is a grave injustice that she was not allowed to make a complaint to the grave of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto that your party is committing injustice to me. She said Shaheed Benazir was the heir of three martyrs and she is also the heir of three martyrs. She said being the daughter of the martyred I have also come here to offer my prayers at the graves of martyred Bhutto leaders but I have been denied entry by the associates of murderers. She alleged that Sindh government is helping MPA Sardar Khan Chandio and Burhan Khan Chandio and by closing doors of the mausoleum it has been proved now that People’s Party and Bilwal Bhutto Zardari are obstructing justice for me, she added. She said she is not scared but will continue to raise her voice for justice. She said people are saying that I am talking against PPP but in fact I have been forced to come out on roads since two years to seek justice. She said had the PPP kept Chaddar on her head and assured of justice she would have accepted because I am not against anyone. She said she neither wants politics nor am a member of any political party but ” I am protesting constantly for justice”. She said that police raids conducted at the residence of Sardars are being politicised which is against democracy and public politics. She said those who are talking about martyrs should also provide justice to us as well. She asked “as to why murderers are not being arrested?”. She said that “Benazir was not the property of anyone but Benazir was of everyone adding today her mausoleum doors were closed and we were given the message that all the oppressors are on one side and the oppressed on the other”. She said IGP Sindh during the meeting with her said that he is ashamed that justice has not yet been done with you. She said the police will submit a report in the apex court at the next hearing. Large number of civil society members of Kambar and other people accompanied her.
Meanwhile, SSP Masood Bangash claimed that closing mausoleum gates was the decision of the Mazar Committee and police provided security only.
Umme Rubab gave 15 minutes to the Mazar Committee but she was denied entry into the Bhutto leaders graveyard. After which she laid floral wreaths at protesting places and left.
