The nationwide tally of Covid-19 patients jumped to 182,664 on Monday, with 66,943 cases reported in Punjab, 71,092 in Sindh, 21,997 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,475 in Balochistan, 1,288 in Gilgit Baltistan, 10,912 in Islamabad and 845 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The virus has claimed at least 3,606 lives while around 71,458 coronavirus patients have recovered so far.
At least 1,464 fresh coronavirus cases were detected in Sindh in the past 24 hours after 9,841 tests conducted in the province. Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement that the total number of infections across the province has soared to 71,092 as the province conducted a total of 3,88,690 tests. He said that 14 more patients of coronavirus died in the last 24 hours across the province, taking death toll from Covid-19 to 1,103.
The chief minister said that 32,945 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in Sindh, including 31,390 quarantined at homes, 47 at isolation centres and 1,508 at hospitals. As many as 617 of the patients under treatment at hospitals are in critical condition and 111 are on ventilators. He said that of total 1,464 new coronavirus cases detected in the province in past 24 hours, 976 were reported in Karachi, as the city has continued to report majority of the cases in Sindh. In District East of Karachi 297 cases were reported, 282 in District South, 158 cases in District Central, 116 in Korangi district, 32 in Malir and 96 cases reported in District West of the city. In other parts of Sindh, 48 cases were reported in Ghotki, 40 cases in Hyderabad district, 39 in Sukkur, 37 in Larkan, 29 in Sanghar, 25 in Khairpur, 15 in Mirpurkhas, 13 in Dadu and eight in Nawabshah, Shah said.
The Balochistan health department has confirmed two more casualties due to coronavirus to bring the provincial death toll to 104. They also reported 112 new cases to raise the province’s tally to 9,587. As many as 3,670 patients have recovered so far.
The primary and secondary health department in Punjab has confirmed another 28 fatalities due to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours to bring the provincial death toll to 1,435. Health officials also reported 1,204 new coronavirus cases to raise the province’s tally to 66,943. As many as 19,100 patients have so far recovered across Punjab.
So far, 1177 healthcare worker of Punjab province have tested posted positive for the novel coronavirus. On the other hand, 554 health workers have also recovered from the disease.
According to Young Doctors Association (YDA), 34 health professionals including 30 doctors, three nurses and one paramedic have lost their lives due to Covid-19. It said that 14 out of 30 martyred doctors are from Lahore and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has the highest number of infected medical staff with 92 doctors, 12 nurses and 12 paramedics.
At least 62 doctors, six nurses and five paramedics have tested positive in Allied Hospital Faisalabad; 40 doctors, 14 nurses and 21 paramedics in Jinnah Hospital; 44 doctors, 12 nurses and six paramedics in Services Hospital; 16 doctors, 26 nurses and nine paramedics in Punjab Institute of Cardiology; 27 doctors, nine nurses and paramedics in Children Hospital; and 15 doctors, two nurses and one paramedics have tested positive in Lady Atchison Hospital. According to a report prepared by the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad, at least 53 medics have lost their lives in fight against the Covid-19 thus far. As many as 104 more heath workers, including 51 doctors, tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.
