ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan (GoP) has abolished all board examinations across the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In a media briefing after the meeting of the National Coordinating Committee (NCC), Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said that it was earlier decided to keep the educational institutions closed till May 31, which is now being extended for another month and a half. However, the institutions will remain closed till July 15.
In his address, the minister said that the government had earlier decided to close educational institutions until May 31 but then it approved an extension until the mid of July.
Mahmood said that due to the ongoing crisis, the board examinations for the ninth grade to intermediate (12th grade) will not be held.
He said that students will be promoted on the basis of the last years’ exams, adding that on this basis, students will be admitted to universities over their intermediate first-year results.
“All board exams have been cancelled and students of class 9th, 10th, 11, and 12 will be promoted for the next grade on the basis of results obtained in the previous class,” he added.
Giving an example, he said a student can get admission in a university on the basis of his 11th class result.
He said the decision has been taken on the consensus of all provinces and added that students will be able to enroll in the next class as soon as the school reopens.
“The decision has been made due to the suffering of our people,” the premier explained.
