KARACHI: An anti-encroachment operation turned violent here on Thursday when police fired tear gas at people protesting the demolitions in the city’s Gulistan-e-Johar area.
The ongoing anti-encroachment operation in Karachi turned violent on Thursday when police had to fire tear gas at people protesting the demolitions in the metropolis’s Gulistan-e-Johar area.
Reportedly the demonstrators were enraged at the authorities for poorly handling the anti-encroachment drive.
Anti-encroachment demolitions were being conducted in Gulistan-e-Johar Blocks 10 and 11 of the KDA Scheme 36 neighborhood, which turned violent and protested also set a police vehicle on fire.
As being reported, a large contingent of police officers in riot gear, shields, and batons charged at the protesters after the police vehicle was burned down, and started firing tear gas in order to disperse the demonstrators.
The demonstrators set a police vehicle on fire and termed demolitions in Blocks 10 and 11 of the KDA Scheme 36 neighborhood the ‘anti-poor demolitions’.
