The government has decided to approach Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman for negotiations after the latter gave Prime Minister Imran Khan a two-day deadline to tender his resignation, a private TV channel reported.
Fazl, addressing the crowd at Azadi March in Islamabad on Friday, reiterated the demand for prime minister’s resignation. Following which, ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s committee constituted to hold consultation with the Rahbar Committee over the Azadi March decided to approach Fazl again. Committee head Defence Minister Pervez Khattak will remind Fazl regarding the earlier agreement reached before the onset of the rally.
Prime Minister Imran and Khattak held telephonic conversation after the speeches by opposition leaders at the Azadi March on Friday. In the conversation, the two spoke about the recent speech by Fazl in which he gave a deadline to the prime minister. Separately, sources within the opposition’s Rehbar Committee said the government body lacks powers to take any decision and that the JUI-F demands are loud and clear, which it had already presented to the government. The opposition said they will hold consultation on whether to hold talks with the government or not if the latter approaches for the purpose.
