Armed robbers deprived Chaudhry Shoaib Saleem, staffer of a renowned English newspaper of his valuables late on Saturday near his residence.
According to a complaint filed at the Shahdara police station, when he was about to reach his home around midnight from the Lahore Press Club, an unknown person carrying a pistol suddenly came in front of him and signaled him to park his motorbike in a nearby empty plot.
The armed robber then asked him to sit down in the plot and hand over his valuables including a mobile phone and wallet, he said.
“When I was handing over my mobile phone, a second assailant came from behind and frisked me thoroughly,” Saleem was quoted as saying in the complaint.
“The second robber stole Rs 3,000 from my wallet,” the journalist said, adding that the robbers also stole his motorbike. The armed robbers were repeatedly saying, “You will find your bike from this plot early in the morning,” he said.
According to Saleem, the robbers wearing shalwar kameez also snatched his helmet and fled. One of the robbers was tall and strongly built, while the other was short and bulky, he said while commenting on the robbers physique.
“After the incident, I reached home and called the police,” Saleem said, adding that Police Response Unit (PRU) and Dolphin Squad personnel reached the spot after a delay of 40 minutes and recorded his statement.
