The police have started the investigation on the attack on the Former Federal Minister and Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leader Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, who came under attack on late Monday night when he was returning from an election meeting.
It is reported that Ahmed was with his son Salman Sarwar when the attack occurred. The police have found three bullet holes on the automobile.
The incident took place while the former minister was returning from an election meeting in Kamra village.
Hassan Asad Alvi, Attock District Police Officer, said that he reached Ahmed’s house after the incident. An investigation team has been appointed, comprising of senior police officers to delve into the matter.
It is reported that Ahmed’s security was withdrawn a week ago.
The recent incident has been an addition to a series of attacks on election candidates all over the country.
On Monday, Awami National Party (ANP) leader Daud Khan Achakzai, who was visiting a party candidate, also came under attack. He was at the guesthouse of Zmrak Khan Achakzai when an unidentified person opened fire in Chaman.
The series of attacks have started on the political leaders since July 10. A suicide bomber blasted himself at the ANP rally in Peshawar. In the attack the party leader Haroon Bilour and 21 others were martyred.
On July 13, an attack on a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) convoy in Bannu claimed the lives of four people and injured 10.
On the same day, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Nawab Siraj Raisani along with 148 others was martyred when a suicide bomber blew himself up during an election rally.
