A photography competition called Shahkar 1.0, which means ‘masterpiece’ was organized by the media society of Punjab University College of Information Technology at Alama Iqbal Campus Lahore.
The exhibition had approximately 200 photographs submitted by several students from different universities; UCP, UMT, UET, LUMS, UOL, NCA, FC, COMSATS, and KEMU on display, a statement issued by the institute said.
A panel of experts including Adeel Chishti and Muhammad Wasif graced the event with their presence and made a contribution in judging the work.
Renowned photographer and one of the judges, Adeel Chishti said that every painting told a different story and depicted the artist’s unique imagination. Muhammad Wasif, however stated that photographers are the ambassador of country and thus, they should present the positive image of the country before the world.
Notably, top 8 photos were selected out of four categories which include architecture/ monument, portrait, street loge and Landscape/ nature.
The work of aspiring photographers included intricate clicks depicting city landscapes from different perspectives. The picture displayed in the competition explored the city through the architecture, highlighting ordinary structures.
One of the participants, while talking to Daily Times stated that she finds inspiration in clicking normal people according to how she perceives them. However, animals are often central characters in her work.
“The reason we have displayed our work in this manner is to make it more accessible to the public,” one of the organizers stated. He maintained that this is in an effort to shatter the monopoly of private art collectors and galleries.
“These scenes have been borrowed from the people, therefore they should be accessible to the people,” he reasoned.
The principal of Punjab University College of Information Technology, Maj. (Retd.) Dr. Muhammad Arif Butt elaborated that PUCIT is one of the prestigious institutions of Pakistan. It is one of the earliest institutes serving good quality education among the people of Pakistan. PUCIT excels not only in academics but in curricular and extracurricular activities as well.
The winners and runner-ups received awards from honorable guests and rest of the participants were awarded with certificate of participation.
