The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday submitted a written response in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in its petition seeking suspension of bails granted to Shehbaz Sharif and Fawad Hassan Fawad.
According to a private TV channel, the top court had asked the anti-corruption watchdog to provide complete details about the alleged misuse of authority committed by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif and former principal secretary to the PM Fawad Hassan Fawad.
The anti-corruption watchdog said in its response that former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif had no official connection with the working of the Punjab Land Development Company.
“Sharif could have nominated board members of the company. However, he suspended the contract of first company for Ashiana [housing project]. Moreover, Sharif also chaired the company’s meetings.”
“Fawad pressured Punjab Land Development Company to suspend the contract, whereas, Ahad Cheema received directives to complete the project under a public-private partnership,” the reply stated.
“Sharif had also directed Ahad Cheema to purchase 100 kanals of land from Paragon Housing Society. Moreover, Fawad Hassan Fawad received Rs 55 million through a bank transaction from Kamran Kiani. Later, Shehbaz Sharif suspended the contract of the second company without any complaint,” NAB stated in its response. It stated that more evidence existed that could prove undeniable links of corruption.
On May 2, the SC had directed NAB to submit a summary, outlining charges against Shehbaz and Fawad.
