Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Wednesday made it clear that he was not resigning from the post, nor was he running away from politics.
Addressing a press conference at the Governor’s House, he said no political change was planned in Punjab. “Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar is the only executive of the province with full mandate and powers. We have been elected by the people of Pakistan to serve the nation for five years under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan,” he said.
Sarwar said he never eyed designations, as serving the humanity had always been his passion. “This is the reason for my enthusiasm in provision of clean drinking water to the poor and common people of this country. I have decided to completely separate myself from the Sarwar Foundation and its fundraisings, including other functions, during my tenure as the governor of Punjab.”
He said the amount collected though fundraising in the United States during his recent visit was being handed over to the provincial government to be used by the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority for provision of clean drinking water. “When we came in power, we had promised that we will bring rule of law to Pakistan, in a true democratic way. We are determined to fulfil all those promises made to the people,” he said.
Sarwar said he belonged to a middle class family, and became the first Muslim member of the British parliament through struggle and hard work. “During my political career there, I always raised my voice for the rights of Muslims and Kashmir at every forum,” he said.
He said the Sarwar Foundation started functioning in Pakistan in 2000, and he had raised funds in the past to set up hospitals and schools to serve the people of the country. He said the water filtration plants installed by the Sarwar Foundation were less expensive than those set up by the government. He paid tribute to all Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers who contributed to the party’s victory in the last general election. “I have been given two important tasks by the prime minister: provision of clean drinking water and promotion of religious tourism.” He said that in the coming four years, not even a single day would be wasted, and the Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority would soon start providing clean drinking water to the people at large.
