Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry Saturday said there was dire need to amend some laws of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) besides capacity building of its staff.
Talking to a private news channel, he said the government needs support of the opposition for the purpose and that federal law minister has already held several meetings with them.
The minister said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) did nothing to amend the NAB laws during their tenures. The two parties have not presented even their draft proposals to the law minister as yet, he added.
The minister said some of the cases against the opposition were genuine and it was unfair to mix them with the non-genuine ones. The incumbent government has nothing to do with the affairs of the NAB, he clarified. Replying to a question, he said the death of Brig (r) Asad Munir was a tragic incident and the Islamabad police was investigating the matter.
Fawad said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will change the policies pursued by the PML-N and PPP governments and make sure that the Pakistani soil is not used against any other country. He said the government will bring the banned outfits in national mainstream by adopting a three-dimensional strategy: economically, politically and administratively. Opposition leaders, including PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari have been taken on board in this regard, he said.
