KARACHI: The celebrations of Pakistan’s historic victory over India left a youngster dead and more than a dozen injured in different parts of Karachi late Sunday night.
Many of the inured initially admitted to private hospitals were later brought to government hospitals on Monday.
Meanwhile police have arrested former member of provincial assembly and politician of Pakistan People’s Party Aman Ullah Mehsud under the allegations of aerial firing in the area of Defense Housing Authority and registered an FIR against him in Darakhshan police station on Saturday.
According to details obtained from three main government-run hospitals including Jinnah, Civil and Abbasi Shaheed, nearly a dozen people including an employee of the private news channel and women were wounded in parts of Karachi when the citizens resorted to indiscriminate firing in the air to celebrate Pakistan’s win in the Champions Trophy.
A young boy Hussain Raza aged 14 could not resist to the injuries and expired in hospital during treatment.
According to police the deceased was a resident of Model Colony Malir area and was standing in the Balcony of his house looking out side where the celebrations were going on after the Pakistan victory on Sunday night.
Hussain Raza was hit by a bullet in his stomach and was brought in to the Jinnah hospital.
Deceased was student of O, level in a local school. The same kind of incidents happened in other areas of the metropolis, according to rescue workers the injured were taken to different government run hospitals including Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Civil Hospital, Karachi for further medical treatment. The injured were brought to hospitals in various parts of the city including Jamshed Quaters, Napier, Nazimabad, Brigade and Model Colony.
An employee of a private news channel, Shariq, assistant engineer DSNG of 24 News, was also among the injured persons. Shariq was outside the residence of Pakistani cricket team captain Sarfaraz Ahmed in Bufferzone in District Central for the coverage when he was hit by a stray bullet. He was critically injured as the bullet hit his head.
22-year-old Hira wife of Javed was also injured by a stray bullet at Bara Maidan area in Nazimabad. Zulekha, 70, wife of Noor Muhammad was injured in Napier while Nasir Yusuf, 45, was injured at Jamshed Quarters. Even though a dozen of people have been injured, the police has remained unable to arrest any single culprit behind these incidents.
On late Sunday night police started operation in different areas of city to arrest the culprits involved in aerial firing on the directives of high officials during which Aman Ullah Mhesood a former member of Sindh assembly and prominent politician of PPP was arrested by Darakhshan police from Khadda Market DHA.
Aman Ullah mehsood was arrested after a video went viral on social media in which Aman Ullah Mehsood was seen with automatic weapons celebrating Pakistan victory by aerial firing.
According to the SHO Darakhshan Ahsan Zulfiqar, police has arrested the politician upon the directives of the home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal and has registered FIR number 285/17 against him to further investigate the matter.
