PESHAWAR: University of Peshawar (UoP) held its grand alumni reunion in Sheikh Muhammad Taimur Academic Block’s lawn, which was attended by a huge gathering of professionals and former varsity graduates.
Pashto songs made the event colourful, sung by former graduate Irfan Khan. ‘Attan’ and Chitrali dance also enthralled the audience.
UoP Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the event. Higher Education Department Additional Secretary Dr Khalid Khan, Former VCs Dr Qibla Ayaz and Dr Lutfullah were among the 400 alumni in the ceremony.
In the event, it was decided that a student endowment fund would be established in order to help the needy and poor students of varsity. Counter Terrorism Department Director Ayaz announced a sum of Rs one million from his pocket in this connection. Certain other graduates also announced their contribution on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, the VC said that Alumni are the University’s guiding agents, who uplift the institute.
Dr Rasul maintained that the huge number of audience proves their love for the alma mater. He vowed to take the journey further by giving more roles to the alumni.
In his speech, Qibla Ayaz said that all the credit of what we have achieved, goes to this University, adding that its graduates have been excellent ambassadors of this institution, working in the public and private sector on key positions within the country and abroad.
