The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested a Rs4.5 per unit increase in electricity prices from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Friday.
If approved, it will impose a Rs59.45 billion surcharge on consumers.
The petition for a hearing will be heard by NEPRA on May 31.
