Appointment of Mirza Shahzad Akbar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on accountability has been challenged in Islamabad High Court (IHC). A petition challenging the appointment of Shahzad Akbar as SAPM and chairman East Recovery unit has been filed by a citizen Syed Pervez Zahoor. He prayed the court to declare illegal July 22 notification regarding appointment of Shahzad Akbar. The petition said Shahzad Akbar is special assistant to Prime Minister (PM) and enjoys the status equal to a federal minister. The appointment was made without advertising the post and in non-transparent manner. He should be restrained from using the office of federal minister. His appointment be declared illegal and perks and privileges, salaries and allowances received by him be recovered from him. The petition further stated the appointment of Shahzad Akbar is nepotism, clash of interest and violation of oath taken by the PM. Shahzad Akbar is playing the role to please his political master. NAB is independent institution which works under NAB ordinance. Appointing Shahzad Akbar as SAPM to Prime Minister (PM) for accountability is tantamount to shift the control of NAB directly to PM, petitioner contended.
