A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between University of Management and Technology (UMT) and Pakistan Navy War College (PNWC) to promote intellectual growth and to foster academic interaction amongst both institutions.
The MoU was signed by UMT President Ibrahim Hasan Murad, and Commander Central Punjab 1(COMCEP) Rear Admiral Zahid Ilyas HI (M) S Bt, and PNWC, Lahore Commandant on behalf of their respective institutions.
UMT Rector Dr Muhammad Aslam, Chief Advisor to President and Professor of Practice Lieutenant General Javed Hassan (R), Department of Political Science and International Relations (IR) Chairman Dr Muhammad Shoaib and Pakistan Navy War College Deputy Commandant Syed Wajeeh ul Hassan SI (M) S Bt were also present at the occasion.
The purpose of this MoU is to collaborate and explore the possibilities of joint research activities such as exchange of expertise, new research and collaborative organisation of seminars, conferences and symposiums. Through this MoU, PNWC and UMT’s Political Science and IR Departments will not only enhance the intellectual capacity of scholars but will also explore new horizons of quality research by adopting emerging interdisciplinary approaches.
UMT is providing quality education through research and highly qualified faculty including more than 200 PhDs. With this MoU, both the institutions would prepare students for strategic leadership, UMT President Ibrahim Hassan Murad expressed.
Through this initiative academia and students would be able to realise the true potential of ‘Blue Economy’ whilst comprehending the security dynamics of maritime mileu, said PNWC Commandant Rear Admiral Zahid Ilyas HI (M) S Bt. PNWC’s collaboration would play a vital role in achieving national objectives for transformation and progress through education and research with combination of the key strengths of the both institutions, he added.
Both institutions foresee further cooperation that will supplement and reinforce the existing academic initiatives in the fields of maritime economy and geo-strategic studies. They also underlined their commitment to human capital development by promoting maritime awareness in the youth, said Ilyas.
