An official notification of Eidul Fitr holidays was issued on Tuesday. According to the notification, Eid holidays will be observed from June 4 to June 7 (four days).
The announcement was made after Federal Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry stated that in light of the lunar observations, Eid would be celebrated on June 5.
The minister said that he has sent the five-year Hijri Calendar to the Islamic Ideology Council (IIC), adding that the calendar would be presented before the cabinet on Wednesday. “I personally believe that there is no need to have Ruet-t-Hilal Committee in the country.” The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet on June 4 to decide whether the moon had been sighted or not. Religious scholars had strongly criticised Fawad Chaudhry for his recent statements.
