Pakistan and Iran Friday agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations. In a tweet, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Faisal said Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua telephoned Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araghchi to discuss matters of mutual interest. The two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in all areas. Janjua emphasised Pakistan’s continued desire for peace and de-escalation of tensions in the region.
Last week, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had exchanged views on overall regional situation and recent tensions between Pakistan and India.
Foreign Secretary Janjua also had a telephonic conversation with Minister of State of Ethiopia Markos TekleRike and discussed bilateral relations and the regional situation. Both the sides agreed to further expand bilateral economic, trade and commercial relations. The foreign secretary emphasized that relations between the two countries were deeply rooted in history and that both sides have maintained friendship and cooperation over the past decades.
The foreign secretary briefed TekleRike on the regional situation and Pakistan’s overtures for peace and de-escalation of tensions in the region. She also conveyed condolences on the tragic air crash of the Ethiopian airline plane and the loss of precious lives.
